Films

wake in fright is an australian new wave film about a teacher called john who is stranded in the outback on his way home for winter break because he looses all his money gambling. the films focuses on the contrast between urban and rural australia, showing how an urban man like john adapts to the rural way of life. the film also focuses on john being trapped as the inescapebility of his situation puts him at the mercy of the townsfolk and gives him no chice but to adapt to there way of life. this film contains a kangaroo hunting sequence which was done practically by filming the actors partaking in an actual kangaroo hunt. like many australian new wave films it highlights the disconnect between urban and rural australia at the time and how they were very much two different worlds
