Questionaire

It is important i do questionaire as it is a key part of research that will allow me to better understand my audience and know how to construct my music video in a way that targets them. This will help me optimise my video by learning the targets prefrences as well as what type of music video would be most effective for the chosejn music. Questionaire distribution My video will more be aimed at youg people so in order to get results from that group of people i will have to share it in online communities such as discord or twitter rather than somewhere like facebook where more old people are. By posting my questionaire in a place where the majority of users are within the age range it will increase my chances of gaining usefull information from my questionare by increasing the likleyhood that the answers will come from my taregt audience whuch will help me target them and decreasing the likleyhood of results from people outside my target group meaning more of the information will be useful. Question 1. Do you like/watch music videos? answers 1.yes i watch them regularly 2. yes i watch them sometimes 3. no i rarely if ever watch music videos i asked this first question in order to understand the participents views on music videos which will help me determine how useful their answers are in relation to this topic, for example if the findings have mixed results i can subtract the answers of those who do not like music videos to ensure the results i use are as accurate to the intended demographic as possible

From these results we can see that out of the 20 people asked 15 of them like music videos and we can further narrow to down to 4 of them who regulaly watch music vidoe's, this information tells me that 75% of the participants like music videos so will be able to provide usefull information for my research question 2. how old are you 1. 14 or below 2. 15-18 3. 19-22 4. 23-27 5. 28+ this question is important and a variation of it appears in most questionaires. it's important to determine if the information is coming from the intended domographic

From these results we see that 85% of participants are in the target age range, we can then cross reference this with the information from question 1 we learn that 70% of the participents are both fans of music videos and in the targeted age range which will be usefull when analysing the answers from the other questions

question 3 what about music videos appeals to you this is an open question i asked in order to learn why the participants like music videos, it's important to iclude both open and closed questions as stated in my research methods analysis, i speciically was interested in how people find enjoyment in music videos and how i could link that to the codes and conventions of music videos. i also gave participents the option to skip this question if they answered 3 for question 1 upon reading through the results i found i'd recievd 17 with 2 being from those who didn't like music videos, both these people explained they thought music was more of an audio medium and didn't need a acomniying visual, this shows me that perserving the music itself is important, the main majortiy of the particpents explained they liked how music vidoe's add stories and images to a song which makes it feel more fleshed out whilst around 4 people cited how the video enhances the audio as what drew them to music videos. from this i know that the visuals should have some connection to the audio in order to be sucessful otherwise it could lose the themes of the original song which could also disconnect fans of that genre question 4. what type of music video do you prefer !. narrative 2. performance 3. conceptual this question was to act in a pair with question 3 and help me narrow down the prefrences of the particpants when cross refrencing with question 3.

from these results we see 70% of the paricpants prefer narrative, looking at this together with the results of question 3 we see thatthe majority of participants prefer narrative videos as they expand the song into more of a 3d story and gives it more meaning that audio alone and enhance the pre existing meaning from the song by using the narrative to augment the meanings whilst using edits and shot choices to augment the tone Evaluation My questionaire task proved interestiing as it required me to carefully think of my questions and how i would make questions that would give me information that would actually be usefull in making my video. From these questions i learned that a narrative video would be the best and would work best if it enhances whats already in the music. By designining questions that specifically determined the participents prefrences i was able to ensure the information aquired was as useful as possible, i aslo did my best to eliminate bias by including multiple options in my closed questions though i could have taken this further with the use of more open questions. if i were to do this again i woul make sure to include more open questions as the one i did include gave interesting results that were important in shaping my video. i would also add questions that specifically relate to the demographic, not doing this was a result of the creative issues on the development side and the late decision in what song and genre to use but if i had had that decied in time then i could have made questions specific to the genre and provided some other music videos of similar songs for particpants to give feedback on so that i could see what was well recieved in those video's and adapt those things into my own video for exaple if a specific style of editing was prefered or if a video used visuals to portray a message

evaluation music video

music video was a difficult unit for me to tackle my planning was near non existent aside from a few rough shots i had in my mind, thi s was because i was unable to lock in my idea and the video completely changed multiple times during production. in the end the video i made was not from planning but in the moment raw creativity. i would say i understand how to create a music video from my reasearch and analysis of other videos and the theories of goodwin and vernalis. the final video itself turned out well and manged to match the beat and tone of the song though i would have liked to do more shots and perhaps try some effect work. research when researching the videos and theories i belive it was satisfactory though i could have done more on the analysis side as well as went into vernalis theory more, there was a lack of focus group and questionarie results
